Dark skies made the crowd of 4563 at Springfield Park a little nervous, but the rain held off. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and . Rochdale decided to use a 5-4-1 set up. The following players took the field: Colbourne - Yates, Sánchez Barriga, Porter, Sumerel, Lukić - Cleuren, Agrawal, Willis, Szachta - Medina Abascal.

A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Krosnianka. Lineup: Keppler - Szolc, Haas, Guillot, Galun - Otero, Cabral, Ferenz, Lepers, Łukasiuk - Chiaburu.

Rochdale clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could, taking advantage of their magical level with that tactic. Rochdale were very close to putting themselves one up after 7 minutes as Jean-Hugues Cleuren got through on the left. However, his concentration failed him, and he shot wide. Krosnianka were pushed back, and had many dangerous counterattacks. An impressive one came 8 minutes into the match, but Mickaël 'Guillotine' Guillot narrowly missed the free kick attempt that was awarded as a result of a foul. 11 minutes into the game, Hieronim 'Lucky' Łukasiuk almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. 20 minutes in, Krosnianka's Ron Galun received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. 29 minutes into the game, Krosnianka had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to solid. Many thought Željko Lukić ought to have been awarded a penalty 32 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around Jürgen Keppler after a determined run through the middle. It was 0 - 0 at the break. Krosnianka claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.

During the break, Krosnianka's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to solid organisation. Krosnianka's Hieronim 'Lucky' Łukasiuk was shown a yellow card after 54 minutes for slicing down an opponent. A loud groan was heard from the fans of Rochdale, as Charles 'Charlie Boy' Colbourne left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match. Ivan Krústev took his place on the field. 60 minutes into the game, Krosnianka seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to passable. Mickaël 'Guillotine' Guillot delivered a good free kick from an excellent position 63 minutes into the game, but luck wasn't on Krosnianka's side this time and the ball went wide. 65 minutes into the game, Krosnianka wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Marian Ferenz gave Łukasz Dulat a quick hug as he left the field. 70 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Krosnianka substitution. Pekka Mämmelä came on for Alic Chiaburu. Scott 'The Rock' Porter would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Myroslav Golovnya entered the game for Rochdale as the match clock showed 70 minutes. Rochdale created a good opportunity to score 71 minutes into the match when Myroslav Golovnya's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball. The guests almost went up by a goal after 72 minutes when Pekka Mämmelä came through and shot from the right. The ball bounced harmlessly off the post, though. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Krosnianka coach decided it was time for a substitution. Jürgen Keppler reluctantly made way for Józef Maleta on the pitch. Hieronim 'Lucky' Łukasiuk was the new captain of Krosnianka - handed the armband by the departing player. Rochdale enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.

As neither team had managed to win, extra time was called. The Krosnianka players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid organisation when the game started again. Some great play up the middle by Rochdale led to a chance for Garth 'Vader' Sumerel to score after 100 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. 112 minutes into the game, Rochdale seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a weak level of organisation. The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when Łukasz Dulat was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 115 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead! Krosnianka took the lead after 118 minutes making the score 0 - 1. Ron Galun placed the ball out of reach for the home side's keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left. After 118 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Krosnianka found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. Most important Rochdale player was Myroslav Golovnya. Ivan Krústev turned in a dismal performance, however. Krosnianka's best player was Pekka Mämmelä. However, Augusto Cabral made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 1.
