Having looked forward to this game all week, it was quite a disappointment for the Tricolor players when their scheduled opponents did not show up. But the groundskeeper called some friends over for a game instead. 2766 spectators had found their way to Estádio das Laranjeiras, despite the heavy rain. Asko Lauta was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and . Tricolor tactics involved an interesting 4-2-3 combination. They fielded: Grenfell - Tunna, Tarawaly, Cullen, Willson - Shannon, Winstanley - Malik, Inam, Lynch.

bra-arg started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. The following players took the field: Itri - Croggon, Johns, Young, Muhammed - Weaver, Wood, Broker, van Muiden - Rahman, Barton.

Tricolor were relying on their passable ability to counter-attack. The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but Vincent van Muiden showed great heart and had a good game. bra-arg's Saleh Rahman was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 22 minutes. Glen Broker of bra-arg was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Tricolor broke through on the left 38 minutes into the game, with Rajiuddin Malik firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. Tricolor had no available replacements when Razak 'Unstoppable' Inam had to leave the game after 39 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team a man short. The referee showed Tricolor's Bob Winstanley the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Bob Winstanley should probably have put his team up another goal after 41 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by Ayhan Itri kept the visitors in the game. 42 minutes into the game, Tricolor seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a passable level of organisation. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. Tricolor had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.

The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that Tricolor had solid organisation. The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like Saleh Rahman. Tricolor managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when Rajiuddin Malik cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. The players of Tricolor now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. After 86 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Rajiuddin Malik might have resulted in another goal for Tricolor. However, Ayhan Itri made a spectacular save. 87 minutes into the game, Tricolor had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to passable. The home side's Abe 'Superstar' Lynch came close to extending the lead 87 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but Ayhan Itri managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. Bob Winstanley had a fantastic opportunity to put Tricolor up another goal 88 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar. Winston Willson, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. Tricolor claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 62 percent.

Tricolor's top performer was clearly Abe 'Superstar' Lynch. On the other hand, Winston Willson's play was disheartening. Vincent van Muiden performed admirably for bra-arg. Gil Croggon turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 0.
