1855 0 - 2 Park

Clear skies welcomed the 859 spectators who had made their way to Grains Moss. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and . A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for 1855. Starters: Watson - Marquis, Johnson - Wan, Currer, Chaner, Shafiq, Atwell - Norrison, Otis, Piper.

Park tactics involved an interesting 4-5-1 combination. Lineup: Turner - Gardiner, Atre, John, Ratcliff - Malpass, Ruddy, Scheding, Hashmi, Westbury - Russell.

1855 used their weak skill at pressing to cut off the attack angles of their opponents all over the field. Park was determined to use their brilliant long shot ability. The pressing tactics used by 1855 were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Park's David Malpass was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 29 minutes. 1855 could have put themselves ahead after 34 minutes but Stuart Piper missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 34 minutes allowed Jordie John to score for Park. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. Micky Scheding of Park seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 0 - 2 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by David Malpass. With 38 minutes played, Jay Marquis was very close to reducing the score for 1855 with a low drive from the left, but a defender stuck his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking the shot to a corner. Against a lesser team, Park could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 38 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Rajah Atre from Park a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 39 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Ian Currer was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so 1855's Oz Woodland had to come off the bench. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 2. 1855 enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 58 percent of possession.

It was obvious that the tactic of the day for Park was to go for long shots, but in order to score they have to do better than the shooting attempt from Jerry Ruddy after 74 minutes, which was a total failure. The crowd groaned when Abdus-Salam Shafiq, having maneuvered his way down the right, fired the ball just wide and missed a great opportunity to reduce the deficit for 1855. 77 minutes in, 1855's Stuart Piper received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. A loud groan was heard from the fans of Park, as Rajah Atre left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match. Ned Cargill took his place on the field. A misunderstanding between the visitors' keeper Russell Turner and his left defence could have resulted in a goal for 1855, but Alan Norrison's finish was way too lame. 1855 claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.

The most dominating 1855 player was without a doubt Stuart Piper. Lee Atwell was a disappointment, however. Park's best player was David Malpass. On the other hand, Ned Cargill's play was disheartening. The match ends 0 - 2.
