Saxons 0 - 2 RR

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 1713 to The Burial Mound. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Amiad Helman and Christian Botor. Saxons decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. They fielded: Głaszczka - Janecki, Selilionis, Scarselletti - Arnskov, í Nýggjustovu, Hansen, Líðastein, Jensen - Steinberg, Nascimento.

RR tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Valdés - Piaskowy, Breitenlohner, Kasperowicz, Józsa, Somodi - Hercog, Samson, Mszyca - Bianda, Bertrand.

For their match strategy, RR had decided to use their formidable ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Saxons had a chance to take the lead after Eustachiusz Janecki's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 25 minutes. Saxons's Einar Steinberg was shown a yellow card after 28 minutes for slicing down an opponent. With 32 minutes gone, Mieczysław Mszyca suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by RR caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring. 35 minutes in, RR's Kevin Józsa received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Kevin Józsa knew he was in trouble after hacking down an opponent. Despite his pleading with the referee, the RR player was shown a second yellow card and dismissed from the game. It was 0 - 0 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Saxons, with 56 percent of the ball.

After 57 minutes RR tried to exploit their counterattacking skills, unfortunately, Maxime Samson's shot sailed wide after his break down the right. It wasn't a good day at all for Eustachiusz Janecki. His powerful style of play just didn't fit the bill on this warm day. At 59 minutes played, Danjal Jacob Líðastein came in from the right with the intention of giving Saxons the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. Saxons had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.

After the regular 90 minutes, the agony of extra time followed. After 97 minutes Saxons's Carlos Nascimento contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. Andrzej Piaskowy wasn't much help defensively. His energy-consuming forward runs proved quite costly in the oppressive heat. There was still no winner after 30 minutes of extra time so the teams had to select a lineup for a penalty shoot-out to settle the result.

Saxons's Einar Steinberg looked like he knew exactly where he wanted to put the ball, but unfortunately his shot went wide of the left hand post. Still 0 - 0. RR's Antón Valdés coolly put the ball past Tomasz Głaszczka. 0 - 1. Oooh - how unlucky! Saxons's Klávus Arnskov attempt hit the underside of the bar, but rebounded down into the grateful arms of Antón Valdés. The score stays 0 - 1. RR's Mieczysław Mszyca kept his cool as he faced down Tomasz Głaszczka. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 0 - 2. Saxons's Ingmar í Nýggjustovu didn't look like he was confident as he stepped up, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of Antón Valdés. The score remained 0 - 2. RR's Maxime Samson penalty shot was very well placed but Tomasz Głaszczka went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 0 - 2. A confident Danjal Jacob Líðastein of Saxons put the ball right where he wanted, but Antón Valdés was right there for the save. No goal. Most important Saxons player was Keistas Selilionis. On the other hand, Ingmar í Nýggjustovu's play was disheartening. RR's best player was Lars Bianda. Andrzej Piaskowy on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 2.
