Due to an all-day shower, 2024 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Anstruther AFC Arena. René Wick was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Vlasta Jaroš and Quan Phuong-Anh. Anstruther tactics involved an interesting 3-5-1 combination. Lineup: Cranford - Blizzard, Wallington, Peters - Bichler, Downie, Puggioni, Galbraith, van Vleuten - Hellewell.

United decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: Merkl - Parchewitz, Stettmeier, Beckenbauer - Bernheiden, Goltermann, Seidberger, Gatara, Mathani - Colby, Rehberger.

Anstruther made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left Bobby Galbraith completely alone with keeper Felix Merkl, who made a spectacular block. Anstruther had a good opportunity to take the lead as Bobby Galbraith came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of Felix Merkl. Safan Mathani made a nice dash down the wing after 26 minutes, but was unable to get the cross into the box. A goal kick was awarded. Anstruther created a good opportunity to score 29 minutes into the match when Alan Downie's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball. 32 minutes into the game, Anstruther seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a inadequate level of organisation. With 33 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. Hans-Rolf Goltermann put the ball away for 0 - 1. 39 minutes into the game, Hans Colby finished off a United left wing counterattack, making the score 0 - 2. By now, the players in United felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. Christian Parchewitz didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain. 0 - 2 was the halftime score. Anstruther enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.

During the break, Anstruther's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to solid organisation. The visitors' Domenic Seidberger took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 56 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for United. 59 minutes in, United's Hans-Rolf Goltermann received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Bobby Galbraith of Anstruther had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. Doug Vance came in to finish the match. Anstruther's Doug Vance managed a superb strike from the left after 63 minutes that would have left goalkeeper Felix Merkl without a chance, had it not hit the post. After 67 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Christian Parchewitz who increased United's lead to 0 - 4. Ross Peters almost reduced the deficit, having drawn the entire left side defence away, but the shot went straight into the arms of the goalkeeper. 72 minutes into the game, Anstruther seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to poor. United's Domenic Seidberger made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 84 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. Possession of the ball saw an equal split between the teams during the forty-five minutes.

The most dominating Anstruther player was without a doubt Alan Downie. Dylan Cranford was a disappointment, however. United's best player was Safan Mathani. Felix Merkl turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 4.
