Pigs 3 - 1 Bellevue

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 2042 at Satellite 15 today. Jens Hagelskär was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Bartosz Żeromski and Jeanloup Bittel. A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Pigs. They fielded: Heerssema - Balogh, Buettner - Tingwell, Mercurio, Campbell, Köves, Lagin - Moody, Harrison, Reboa.

Bellevue had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. The following players had been chosen: Turagabea - Filipović, Văn Cao, Tuqiri, Vaughan, Paokis - Gambhir, Charmawawina, Fatt, Lancaster - Kimera.

At 6 minutes played, Reginald Mercurio came in from the right with the intention of giving Pigs the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. The corner kick from Aron Lagin was powerfully met by the head of Hector Moody to make the score 1 - 0. With 17 minutes played, Bellevue's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to Sofoklis Paokis he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 1 - 1. With the clock showing 21 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Bellevue resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by Dhanesh Gambhir in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. As the 27 minute mark approached, the Pigs coach decided it was time for a substitution. Luke Buettner reluctantly made way for Jürgen Tompkin on the pitch. Pigs took the lead, 2 - 1, after a penalty 36 minutes into the match. Aron Lagin scored from the penalty spot. Halftime score was 2 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Pigs, with 62 percent of the ball.

The bench was restless, and with 50 minutes passed Bellevue's coach gave Wally Whitaker the opportunity the player had been hoping for. Joshua Kimera reluctantly left the field. Glenn Harrison should probably have put his team up another goal after 51 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by Bronx Turagabea kept the visitors in the game. After 69 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and Jean-Marc Balogh gave the Pigs supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 1. Jürgen Tompkin could have put Pigs up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 72 minutes. Pigs had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.

Pigs's top performer was clearly Reginald Mercurio. Watze Heerssema on the other hand, had a terrible day. Bronx Turagabea performed admirably for Bellevue. Dhanesh Gambhir was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 1.
