It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 3548 that came out to Springfield Park. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Carlos Servín and . Rochdale decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players took the field: Rozumek - Yates, Agrawal, Marks - Sbandi, Castle, Knights, Ward, Allen - Pitzalis, Cassany.

Rabbits tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Starters: Stadhouders - Friðriksson, Eyjólfsson, Mattason - Friðriksson, Liiv, Hugason, Ingielewicz, Geirfinnsson - Pumarino, Hauksson.

Rochdale were mostly trying to use their titanic skill at attacking on the flanks. For their match strategy, Rabbits had decided to use their solid ability to counter-attack whenever possible. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 5 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from Nitin Agrawal, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. Rochdale's Dean 'The Guv'nor' Yates swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. The score became 2 - 0 at 15 minutes into the game, when Rochdale were given a penalty which Davy Castle blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance! It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why Alan Ward found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork. After 29 minutes, Tim Knights put Rochdale ahead 3 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. 3 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Rochdale, who controlled the ball 76 percent of the time.

76 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Sean Allen broke through, making the score 4 - 0 for Rochdale. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Rochdale lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. As usual, Tim Knights tried to use his strength and hard work for the benefit of the team, but the heat hit him hard and he couldn't keep pace at all. Given a free kick close to the byline, Rochdale tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let Guillem Cassany slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 5 - 0, 83 minutes into the game. Gianluca Carlo Pitzalis found it hard to catch his breath today in the stifling heat. It was obvious that Rochdale had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. Rabbits's counterattacks created a good chance for Methúsalem Eyjólfsson on the right after 89 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar. Rochdale's Nitin Agrawal increased the lead to 6 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 89 minutes. After 89 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Sean Allen might have resulted in another goal for Rochdale. However, Marco 'The Sloth' Stadhouders made a spectacular save. Rochdale enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 85 percent of possession.

Gianluca Carlo Pitzalis performed admirably for Rochdale. Dean 'The Guv'nor' Yates was a disappointment, however. Rabbits's top performer was clearly Marco 'The Sloth' Stadhouders. However, Arinbjörn Geirfinnsson made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 6 - 0.
